Become an Adult Coach

Currently, you can only be an adult coach if your son or daughter is also a participant on the trip.  If you volunteer as an adult coach, your son or daughter can also go with you on the same expedition even if the expedition status shows that the trip is full for young men or young women.  We always reserve space for the children of adult coaches.  Check the trip status to view openings for Adult Coaches.

All Adult Coaches will be required to pay the same participation fees as youth and will be required to complete the same application form. Adult Coaches must be current temple recommend holders and will participate in all aspects of the service program alongside the YM/YW. As an Adult Coach, you will be expected to serve as the "coach" for about 4-5 YM/YW on a daily basis and work with the Trip Leader to make sure that the program is a success. The expeditions run at a "teenage pace," so be prepared for long days including hard physical work and activities. Your dining and lodging will be together with the youth, often in large rooms of dorms or youth hostels.  

From past experience the Adult Coaches have a special opportunity to interact with the youth as coworkers, mentors and friends. In many cases this is the only extended interaction that some youth will have with an LDS adult who is not a parent, teacher, or church leader. The experience, therefore, often provides opportunities to have special Gospel discussions with the youth. We ask that you be mindful of these opportunities and take advantage of them when appropriate. The impact that Adult Coaches can have on the youth they serve makes the experience extremely rewarding for adult coaches. 

Note:  We do not allow both a husband and wife to go together as adult coaches on the same trip because together with their son/daughter it creates a "family" dynamic that tends to separate them from the other youth participants.
