Overview

Location: Orange Walk • Age: 16-19 • Cost $2495

Belize is a beautiful country situated on the Caribbean Sea that features diverse natural and man-made wonders, including ancient Mayan ruins. The warm and friendly people of Belize make up the only official English-speaking country in Central America, though most do speak Spanish as well.

In Belize, your H.E.F.Y. group will build a much-needed addition to an elementary school in the small town of Orange Walk. Because the country is very poor there is very little financial assistance for the schools from the government. Deteriorating school buildings packed tight with students make learning difficult. Your H.E.F.Y. group will be a crucial part of helping this community provide educational opportunities for its children by constructing classrooms more conducive to learning.

You will spend your weekends exploring the wonders of Belize. On the exotic island of Ambergris Caye, the largest island in Belize, you will snorkel in the National Marine Reserve. You will also go tubing through jungle caves in underground rivers and tour Book of Mormon ruins.
