| Overview Belize is a natural wonderland. Situated on the Caribbean Sea, its eastern shore is blessed with the second largest barrier reef in the world, second only to the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. It is also known for its ancient ruins amid beautiful jungles in the west. The warm and friendly people of Belize make up the only official English-speaking country in Central America, though most speak Spanish as well. In Belize, you will build a crucial addition to an elementary school in the small town of Corozal. Most of the school buildings and classrooms in the area are small, deteriorating, and not conducive to quality learning. Your HEFY group will be a crucial part of helping this community provide opportunities for its children to learn. You will also spend one weekend visiting the exotic island of Ambergris Caye where you will snorkel in the National Marine Reserve, and a second weekend tubing through jungle caves in underground rivers and touring Book of Mormon ruins.
