The Dominican Republic frequently receives the title "Best Place to Travel," with its white sandy beaches that extend over hundreds of miles of coastline and its warm inviting people. However, the country also faces many challenges due to high poverty levels and weak infrastructure, and many basic needs of its citizens are unmet.
You will work in the city of Santiago helping to expand a neighborhood medical clinic that is currently too crowded to provide for the community. H.E.F.Y. volunteers will build additional space for patients and a bathroom to help improve the sanitary condition of the clinic. Your contribution will greatly help the clinic and the community it serves.
On the weekends, you will explore the beauty of this island nation. Your group will travel to the south of the country for a daylong boat tour to the small island of Saona. You will get to visit a local village, snorkel, and visit some of the most pristine white sand beaches in the world. Your adventures will continue with a kayaking adventure through Bayahibe's national park and a trip to walk, swim, and jump through the famous 27 Waterfalls! In addition to feeding your sense of adventure, you will be fed spiritually through attending church meetings, dances, activities with the local youth, and with a trip to the temple in Santo Domingo.
