Overview

Location: Cuenca • Base Cost: $2750 • Age: 16-19
Famous for its location on the Equator, Ecuador features a diverse landscape that features the Andes Mountains, coastal plains, jungles, and the Galapagos Islands. Celebrating our third year in the country, H.E.F.Y. will be implementing several exciting changes to the program including young men and young women on the expedition, and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.

In Ecuador, you will be working in the charming colonial city of Cuenca, which lies 8,000 feet above sea level and is surrounded by mountains on all sides. There are many disadvantaged and disabled children living in Cuenca and other small cities, but there are not enough resources to provide social and emotional support to these children. For this project, you will build new housing facilities at an orphanage that primarily serves severely disabled and disadvantaged children. This will allow the orphanage volunteers to be more available to the children and will provide increased support for children in need. You will have the unique opportunity to see the children each day at the work site and volunteer in the orphanage twice a week.

Evening activities will include spending time with local church members and a stake dance. You will also be able to take a trip to the Guayaquil Temple. On the weekends, you will explore the Galapagos islands, which serves as the exclusive home to a number of animal species, and go ziplining.
